Role Purpose
We're looking for a Development Engineer/Senior, where you'll provide technical leadership for the North American Telehandler product range and will be based at JCB's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas. You'll be responsible for the ongoing development, validation, localisation and continuous improvement of JCB's North American Telehandler products. Working closely with production, service and commercial teams in both North America and the UK, you'll play a key role in ensuring the product continues to meet customer expectations, legislative requirements and business objectives. The role is initially focused on supporting production start from our new facility.
Additionally, you'll have customer-driven engineering solutions to deliver. Improving quality, reliability, durability, safety, manufacturability and customer satisfaction are all key fundamental attributes for the role. In addition to leading product development activities, you'll support the continued growth of the engineering function at JCB San Antonio and help establish a high-performing product development culture. As the engineering capability in San Antonio continues to expand,you'll work closely with the UK Telehandler engineering team to ensure alignment with global engineering standards while taking increasing ownership of product development activities that directly support North American customers, dealers and manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead hydraulic and mechanical product development tasks.
• Help to deliver customer-focused product improvements for fleet and rental customers.
• Assist with engineering changes from concept through validation and production implementation.
• Work closely with design engineers to optimise manufacturability, assembly, serviceability and reliability.
• Interface with UK development team to maintain alignment with JCB standards and legislation.
• Work closely with Production, Service, Purchasing, Quality, Sales and Marketing functions.
• Commission and maintain development machines. Build, commission and run test rigs.
• Analyse engineering data and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain DFMEA, DVPSOR, risk assessments and engineering documentation.
• Support software development and machine control system optimisation.
Validation, Testing & Product Verification
• Lead planning, execution and reporting of vehicle-level and subsystem validation activities.
• Develop and maintain Design Verification Plans and Summary Reports.
• Build and commission validation rigs and instrumentation systems.
• Analyse root causes using DFMEA, 8D and structured problem-solving techniques.
• Validate engineering changes and verify corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with North American regulations and industry standards.
• Carry out stability testing of whole machines, wheel/tire combinations and attachments.
Experience & Qualifications
• Degree qualified in Hydraulic, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years engineering experience.
• Significant experience of Loadall machine range.
• Proficient with Siemens NX and PLM systems.
• Strong understanding of BOM structures and change management processes.
• Experience using instrumentation systems and CANbus diagnostics.
