Role Purpose
Based at the new JCB San Antonio manufacturing facility, the Senior EDS Harness Design Engineer will become the local technical authority for Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS) and wiring harness design for the North American Telehandler product range. Working closely with the UK Loadall Electrical & Controls team, you'll support production, service investigations, customer improvement requests, component localisation programmes and VAVE activities while helping establish the long-term engineering capability within the San Antonio facility.
EDS Harness Design & Product Development
• Design and develop machine wiring harnesses and electrical installation systems.
• Create and maintain harness schematics using Zuken E3.
• Support harness packaging and routing using Siemens NX.
• Develop robust harness designs for harsh off-highway environments.
• Manage harness changes through the product lifecycle.
• Drive design-for-manufacture improvements and complexity reduction initiatives.
Localization & Cost Reduction
• Lead localisation activities for harnesses and electrical components.
• Support Purchasing with supplier sourcing and validation.
• Deliver VAVE and cost reduction projects while maintaining quality and functionality.
Production Engineering Support
• Act as the primary EDS engineering support resource for the San Antonio factory.
• Support production line fault finding and root cause investigations.
• Work directly with manufacturing teams to improve assembly quality and efficiency.
• Provide technical support for current product introductions and future machine programs.
• Support and develop production team understanding of electrical systems and diagnostics.
Service & Dealer Support
• Act as the engineering interface for Service, Marketing and Dealer Support teams.
• Assist with investigating customer and dealer electrical concerns.
• Translate customer feedback into product improvements.
Validation & Verification
• Develop and execute validation plans for harness and installation changes.
• Conduct machine, rig and laboratory testing.
• Verify durability, robustness and environmental performance.
• Support DVPSOR activities and engineering sign-off.
Future Product & Department Development
• Support future machine design updates, connected products, object detection and pedestrian recognition systems.
• Build and maintain strong links with the UK E&C Loadall team.
• Support mentoring, recruitment and future growth of the local engineering function.
Essential Experience
• Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or similar time served experience.
• Significant experience in wiring harness design and electrical installation systems.
• Experience with Zuken E3, electrical CAD tools and PLM systems.
• Knowledge of vehicle wiring architecture, routing, connectors and electrical component integration.
• Experience supporting production and manufacturing environments.
• Strong root cause analysis and fault-finding capability.
Desirable Experience
• Siemens NX.
• Loadall experience.
• Component localisation and VAVE programmes.
• CANbus/J1939 diagnostics.
• 12/24VDC electrical machine architectures.
