About the role:

The Generator Test Engineer role is a hands-on, technically demanding position focused on the testing, validation and continuous improvement of generator systems and associated technologies. You will be responsible for ensuring that diesel generators, hydrogen generators and lithium iron battery packs meet both industry standards and customer specifications.

Working in a fast-paced, live electrical test environment, you will play a key role in verifying product performance, identifying faults and contributing to quality improvements. This role involves close collaboration with engineering and quality teams to ensure products are reliable, safe, and fit for purpose for end users.

What does this role involve day to day?

Conducting electrical and mechanical testing of diesel generators (70kVA–625kVA), hydrogen generators and battery systems

Carrying out generator synchronisation using Deep Sea and DEIF controllers

Performing advanced fault finding across AC/DC circuits, control panels, wiring harnesses and mechanical systems (fuel, coolant, oil, AdBlue)

Testing LV electrical systems and verifying performance against specifications and standards

Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and engineering drawings

Recording test results, updating build documents and ensuring all work follows standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Working safely in a live electrical testing environment, either independently or as part of a team

Supporting continuous improvement by identifying root causes of faults and helping implement corrective actions

Collaborating with engineering and quality teams to enhance product performance and reliability

Ensuring all testing activities comply with relevant electrical regulations and safety standards

This will be suited to you if

You have strong hands-on experience in testing diesel generators and electrical systems

You are confident working with 3-phase AC generators, control panels and synchronisation systems

You have excellent fault-finding skills across both electrical and mechanical systems

You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-responsibility live test environment

You can work both independently and collaboratively within a small team

You are highly organised and able to follow structured processes while maintaining accurate records

You can interpret technical drawings and schematics with ease

You are proactive in identifying issues and contributing to product improvements

You have a solid understanding of industry standards and electrical regulations (e.g. 18th Edition, inspection and testing)
