Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you'll play a major role in ensuring our generators remain among the most advanced, reliable and competitive in the industry. You'll manage a team of electrical engineers across the UK and India, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through to validation, while also helping internal teams resolve complex technical challenges. This is a technical leadership role with real influence over innovation, product performance and global growth.

What does this role involve day to day?
  • Leading the design and development of 12V and 24V control systems.
  • Designing LV power distribution systems ranging from 18kVA to 1MVA.
  • Defining electrical and electronic system architecture.
  • Applying knowledge of generator synchronisation, load testing, protection systems and controls.
  • Ensuring safety‑critical requirements are met within harsh‑environment electrical designs.
  • Specifying electrical and electronic components for machine systems.
  • Signing off validation activities for electrical and electronic components and systems.
  • Developing technical specifications, JCB Group Electrical Standards and engineering instructions.
  • Conducting electrical system reviews to recognised industry standards.
  • Managing and developing an electrical engineering team across the UK and India.
  • Creating progression plans and building high‑performing technical teams.
  • Planning resource and budgets for NPI (New Product Introduction) and CPS activities.
  • Signing off internal technical reviews and engineering documentation.
  • Overseeing cost‑down engineering activities and reviewing proposals.
  • Supporting the development of DVPSOR documentation and validation plans.
  • Leading and reviewing 8D problem‑solving activities.
  • Ordering materials and components required for engineering builds and testing.

This will be suited to you if...

  • You have strong experience in the design, development or operation of power generation equipment.
  • You are educated to at least HND level in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • You understand the legislative and compliance requirements for power generation products.
  • You are confident managing technical teams both locally and remotely.
  • You can demonstrate substantial experience in electrical power generation, power distribution and control systems.
  • You are proficient in Teamcentre or similar PLM tools.
  • You have strong project and supplier management capability with clear commercial awareness.
  • You communicate effectively, collaborate well and bring a practical, hands‑on approach to problem solving.
  • You thrive under pressure and can make informed technical and commercial decisions across multiple projects.
  • You are open‑minded, proactive and demonstrate a “can‑do” attitude.
  • You are willing to travel periodically and visit other JCB sites when required.
