About the role:
As an Irrigation Technician at JCB Golf & Country Club, you’ll play a key role in maintaining the health, quality and playability of the golf course through the effective operation and upkeep of the automated irrigation system. You’ll manage day‑to‑day irrigation tasks, support turf health across the course, and ensure the system is functioning efficiently at all times. Alongside your irrigation responsibilities, you will be required to also support the wider golf course maintenance team to help keep the course operating to the highest standards.
What does this role involve day to day?
· Operating irrigation system and adjusting watering levels in dry or high‑priority areas.
· Managing, maintaining and repairing the automated irrigation system.
· Monitoring and carrying out routine maintenance on pump systems.
· Supervising small irrigation projects and contributing to ongoing system improvements.
· Ensuring all work complies with Health & Safety, COSHH, Risk Assessments and SOP guidelines.
· Make recommendations to enhance irrigation processes, procedures and site regulations.
· Protecting turf health and preventing long‑term damage across the golf course.
· Accepting training and guidance to support continued development of technical skills.
· Using tools and equipment correctly for golf course and irrigation maintenance.
· Supporting general golf course maintenance tasks when required.
· Contributing to the overall workflow and smooth operation of the department.
This will be suited to you if…
· You have strong knowledge of golf course care, turf management and irrigation maintenance.
· You understand how to operate and maintain the tools, equipment and systems used in golf course upkeep.
· You hold an SVQ/NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Maintenance (or equivalent).
· You have at least 3 years of experience in an assistant greenkeeping role.
· You hold PA1, PA2 & PA6 and First Aid certifications (advantageous but not essential).
· You can supervise others when required and estimate materials, supplies and equipment needed for irrigation repairs.
· You are able to motivate, guide and work effectively as part of a team.
· You have good communication and interpersonal skills and maintain a positive attitude in all work situations.
· You are proactive, safety‑focused and committed to continuous improvement.
· You can confidently manage your own time and take ownership of your department.
