About the role:
As a Principal User Interface Designer at JCB World Headquarters, you'll lead the creation of intuitive, seamless and brand‑defining digital interfaces for our global machine portfolio. Your work will shape the future of operator experience, simplify complex machine functionality, and strengthen the JCB brand across all digital touchpoints. Working closely with the Head of Design, you'll guide the strategic direction of UI design at JCB, mentoring designers, influencing cross‑functional decisions and ensuring world‑class execution from concept through to production. You'll be a key voice in the evolution of our digital design language, pushing innovation while championing consistency, usability and premium quality.
What does this role involve day to day?
· Leading the design and development of advanced user interface concepts aligned to JCB’s brand DNA and long‑term product vision.
· Setting design direction, standards and methodologies for the UI discipline within the Industrial Design team.
· Creating high‑level concepts, sketches, wireframes and prototypes to communicate ideas clearly across engineering, design and leadership teams.
· Developing UI assets and interaction flows using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe XD and other digital tools.
· Driving consistency across all digital touchpoints by evolving and maintaining the JCB digital design language.
· Overseeing UI delivery from concept through to production, working closely with engineering to ensure intent, quality and usability are upheld.
· Presenting design work including team outputs to senior stakeholders with clarity, confidence and strategic rationale.
· Acting as a key liaison across cross‑functional teams, ensuring UI considerations are fully integrated into product development.
· Providing mentorship, guidance and design leadership to other UI designers, supporting their growth and maintaining high standards of output.
· Championing innovation through new technologies, interaction models and future‑focused interface solutions.
· Ensuring accuracy, detail and consistency through a rigorous, methodical design process.
· Managing priorities under pressure while upholding exceptional quality standards.
This will be suited to you if…
· You hold a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design, Digital Design, Product Design (with UI modules) or a related discipline.
· You have significant experience in UI design ideally within complex products, interfaces or embedded systems with a portfolio demonstrating high‑quality, user‑centred digital work.
· You’re highly skilled with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe XD, and confident producing wireframes, user flows, prototypes and refined production‑ready assets.
· You bring strong graphical flair, excellent visual judgement and a deep understanding of digital design principles.
· You can lead projects end‑to‑end, influencing direction, managing stakeholders and defending design intent when needed.
· You have the confidence and presence to present to senior leadership and articulate design decisions clearly and persuasively.
· You thrive in a collaborative environment, building strong relationships across design, engineering, product and other business functions.
· You have a passion for technology, UI innovation and delivering class‑leading operator experiences.
· You enjoy mentoring others, setting standards and raising the overall capability of the design team.
· You are organised, detail‑driven and able to deliver high‑quality work at pace and under pressure.
· You are enthusiastic about the JCB brand and motivated to shape its digital future.
