About the role:
As a Senior Greenkeeper at JCB Golf and Country Club you will be responsible for carrying out all maintenance tasks required, whilst leading, supervising and training other members of staff. You will be required to work closely with the Golf Course Manager and Deputy Golf Course Manager to manage and maintain the golf course, ensuring that it is always presented in the best possible condition. What does this role involve?
• Cutting all playing surfaces, change holes, setting up the golf course for play, preparing bunkers, any spraying that is required; ensuring that the course is presented in the best possible condition to always exceed the expectations of members, guests and visitors.
• Leading teams to complete aeration, construction and turfing work.
• Understand the companies’ policies on Health & Safety and to ensure that all duties performed are carried out with full regard to the safety of the customers, visitors, contractors and other employees.
• Always work within the companies’ Health & Safety, COSHH, Risk Assessment and SOP guidelines.
• Contribute to the reviewing of SOPs and ensuring staff are trained to the SOP guidelines.
• Responsible for the care of machinery whilst ensuring other members of staff take care for machinery and the reporting of loss or damage to Head Mechanic or relevant Line Manager.
• Ensure that care is always taken to prevent any long-term damage to the turf/golf course.
• Supervise and mentor Apprentice, Assistant and Senior In-Training Greenkeepers in day-to-day duties ensuring the best possible quality is always achieved.
• Play a key role in the preparation of professional golf tournaments such as The Legends Tour and LIV Golf.
• This position requires a high level of commitment to fulfil the expectation of JCB Golf and Country Club and the JCB Global Brand.
This will be suited to you if:
• Knowledge and experience of greenkeeping operations and maintenance work.
• Knowledge and experience of the methods used in the maintenance of golf courses.
• Knowledge and experience of the uses and operating methods of the equipment and tools used in golf course maintenance.
• Knowledge of turf diseases and the methods used to control them.
• Have a keen eye for detail and ambition to improve quality and conditioning.
• Possess good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively.
• Be a proven and strong leader that is capable and confident of supervising and leading small or large teams.
• Must maintain a positive attitude in all work-related circumstances.
• Must be a focused and driven individual with the aim of progressing in their career and the industry.
• Previous experience in professional golf tournament preparation.
• You have the ability to incorporate yourself into a large team and be able to manage varying personalities.
• Your commitment should reflect pride in the course, consistency in performance, and a willingness to go the extra mile to maintain world-class presentation and standards for our members and guests
Knowledge and Experience required:
• SVQ/NVQ Level 3 in sports turf maintenance or equivalent favourable
• Minimum of 3-year experience in an Assistant Greenkeeper position
• PA1, PA2 & PA6 Certification is favourable
• IOSH Managing Safely Certification is favourable
• Must hold full UK driving license.
