An exciting opportunity has arisen for a SeniorDevelopment Engineer to join the Excavators Engineering team responsible for Heavyline Tracked and Wheeled Excavators who will play a key role in developing our future range with the opportunity to work on new technology developments.
What does this role involve day to day?
Your Responsibilities as a Senior Development Engineer:
Working at JCB Heavy Products and Wardlow Quarry, the successful candidate will join a small dynamic team, passionate about our products and strive to continually evolve and innovate. Reporting to the Test and Development Manager, the successful candidate will be working on exciting new programmes to both maintain and further extend / develop new technology on JCB’s Tracked and Wheeled Excavator range of machines; your main duties would include:
Have ownership and responsibility for completion of Testing and Development activities on new product designs, systems, and components from project concept through to Engineering Sign Off.
Testing and development of whole machines to meet both internal and external standards.
Analysis, reporting and writing technical reports to form part of the machine technical construction file for product homologation and legislative conformance along with providing information for DVPSOR’s and Engineering Sign Off.
Managing the running of machine endurance testing. Recording, communicating, diagnosing machine technical issues and proposing design solutions to close out using PCM tools.
Machine performance and efficiency testing.
Customer acceptance trials and evaluations including the benchmarking of marketplace competition along with liaising with Test Drivers and Group Assessors.
Liaising with other internal departments and external suppliers to resolve technical issues and supply information.
Assisting with the development of software and tuning of associated parameters to optimise machine control systems.
Commissioning and development of complex subsystems: Hydraulic, electrical, engine etc.
Designing, building and running component endurance test rigs.
Planning and facilitation of various tests internally and with external test providers.
Sourcing suitable instrumentation for testing.
Support with training and guiding of Junior Engineers to strengthen skill sets. Supervision of XP resource allocated to assist with development tasks / prototype builds.
Assisting with the creation of new software functional requirement documentation.
Pivotal in driving innovation, enhancing performance and implementing new technology, encouraging creativity and product improvement.
This will be suited to you if
Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline. Alternative engineering qualifications will be considered when supported with relevant experience.
Experienced in the development of off highway vehicles (ideally 360° Excavators) with an understanding of customer applications / requirements and Engineering sign off process.
Extensive knowledge of data acquisition, processing and vehicle testing.
A sound grasp of engineering principles, with a logical approach to problem solving.
Good teamwork, positive attitude with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good working knowledge of powertrain, hydraulics, software and electrical circuits, reading of schematics and diagnosing problems.
Ability to design tests, analyse data and form a conclusion to solve technical issues or demonstrate compliance to relevant standards.
Confident in presenting to groups in an effective manner and leading technical discussions.
Able to prioritise and progress multiple projects in parallel and detail plans
Detailed understanding of the application of standards and legislation in the design and testing of machines.
A passion for innovation and product improvement is essential, contributing to the company’s ongoing success and meet the business targets.
Has team leader experience and has product / testing knowledge to mentor Junior Engineers.
Hands-on practical skills with hydraulics and mechanical parts fit experience.
Strong Microsoft Office skills.
