Overview of the role:
Reporting to the engineering manager, the successful candidate will join a highly focussed and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical / electronic engineering across the business.
This role is based within the Electrics and Controls team responsible for the Wheeled Loaders and Tele-Master product. The position specifically is responsible for leading the delivery of electrical and electronic design for the upcoming JCB product programmes. The role will test the right candidate in their skills of project management & delivery, technical knowledge and ability to work with cross-divisional disciplines as well as on-shore and off-shore software teams.
Your Responsibilities:
General Duties:
· Translate the ‘voice of the customer’ – Working with the Wheeled Loader product team to turn systems requirements into functional software requirements
· Deliver functional requirements for machine controllers to be delivered in by software teams both in-house and externally
· Concept, prototyping and development of Simulink model based applications through a team of embedded systems engineers
· Selection of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.
· Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet)
· Experience / understanding of model based application development
· Work inline with industry standard development techniques ie V Model and software development processes
· Support of cause and effect analysis – risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone
Qualifications and Experience:
· Strong desire to learn from working on differing system architectures and coding techniques.
· Familiar with different requirements capturing tools ie IBM DOORS / JAMA
· Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols ie CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230
· Working knowledge of Software development techniques (V Model and functional safety)
· Experience in the completion of different V&V techniques White/Grey/Black box testing
Essential:
· Experience taking full electronic systems from concept through to delivery
· Able to convert a list of desirables, into clear concise testable statements (functional requirements)
· Familiar with CAN bus protocols or vehicle communication networks
· Awareness of functional safety and security impact, on software development
· Experience of validation and verification activities
· Excellent communication and IT skills
Desired Senior Engineer:
· Experience in Matlab/Simulink development for embedded
· Experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development
· Version control systems.
· Software development management tools such as JIRA
· Validation and verification co-ordination
· Experience of Project delivery
· Understanding of and adherence to quality systems and processes.
· Understanding of FuSa and Cyber techniques (ISO13849 and ISO21434)
· Co-ordination of tasks with the wider team.
Desired Principal Engineer:
· Experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development
· Version control systems.
· Software development management tools such as JIRA
· Experience managing or leading a team of systems engineers for requirements capture, test plan development, software development and V&V testing
· Code reviews and coaching junior members of a team
