Overview of the role:

 Reporting to the engineering manager, the successful candidate will join a highly focussed and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical / electronic engineering across the business.

 The role is within the Group Electrics and Compliance Fastrac team which has responsibility to ensure that all new JCB Product programmes meet the required technical deliverables against required timing. The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery.

 Your Responsibilities:

o    Translate the ‘voice of the customer’ (internal and external) into a list of clear concise requirements and deliverables.

o    Concept, prototyping and development of Simulink model based applications across a wide variety of machine functions

o    Understanding & selecting of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.

o    Develop prototype solutions to validate proof of concept ideas

o    Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet)

o    Work inline with industry standard development techniques ie V Model and software development processes

o    To use record keeping techniques, of all designs, revisions and related updates 

o  Supporting cause and effect analysis – risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone

 Qualifications and Experience:

o    Familiar with different requirements capturing tools ie IBM DOORS.

o    Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols ie CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230

o    Working knowledge of Software development techniques (V Model and functional safety)

o    Experience in the completion of different V&V techniques White/Grey/Black box testing

o    Experience of design verification processes (DVPSOR)

Essential:

o Experience in the C programming language.

o Experience in Matlab/Simulink development for embedded

o  Able to convert a list of desirables, into clear concise testable statements (functional requirements)

o  Confident using software modelling tools & software.

o   Experience in the model based software rapid prototyping and product

o   Knowledge of electronic and software development

o   Knowledge of low level firmware integration ie bootloader through to application layer and parameter configuration

o   Familiar with CAN bus protocols or vehicle communication networks

o   Happy to use different types of lab equipment to monitor system behaviour ie CAN, frequencies, PWM and basic operation

o Awareness of functional safety and security impact, on software development

o   Experience in the use of black box testing techniques

o   Experience of validation and verification activities

o   Experience taking electronic systems from concept through to delivery. 

Desired

o   Experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development

o   Qualified to HND/Degree level in an electronic/software based technology discipline or equivalent experience.

o   Proficient in embedded control systems development comprising systems applications.

o Proficient in software lifecycle management:

o  Requirements capture (e.g. DOORs)

o  Version control systems.

o  Software development management tools such as JIRA

o  Validation and verification co-ordination 

o  Experience of Project delivery

o  Understanding of and adherence to quality systems and processes. 

o  Understanding of FuSa and Cyber techniques (ISO13849 and ISO21434)

o  Co-ordination of tasks with the wider team.
